Race Results

Mallory Park 13th June 2010

The team returned to base in the early hours of Monday morning feeling tired but very content with the results of the weekend which happens to be the most successful round of the year to date.

Round 5 of the CPC UK Legends Championship delivered a further three races full of action.

Race 1

John pulled a start position on the sixth row in the middle of the pack in 11th place for the RSCapp/MTS Legend. The weather was fine and the adrenaline was flowing and the 8 lap race promised lots of action. In true Legends fashion, everyone tried to win the first race of the day on the very first bend causing a huge pile up in the middle of Gerards Bend. This brought out the caution flag, which stayed out for 3 laps then a decision was made to fly the red flag. The drivers remaining in the race were brought back to original starting grid positions with a decision by the Marshals to run a further 5 laps of the race.

John was not too fortunate on the restart and was surrounded by a gaggle of cars through which he was unable to force his way. As the Legends became more spread out, John was able to race his way up to 7th position, which is where he took the chequered flag.

Race 2

With a reverse position on the grid from race 1, the RSCapp/MTS Legend started in 16th place on row 8. The pack all successfully maneuvered their way round the first bend. John was fighting his way through the pack until more action came on the second lap where Geradrds Bend claimed more victims with the crowd being witness to a flying somersaulting Legend. The no. 24 car acted like he was doing a gymnastics display! Luckily nobody was hurt. This brought out the yellow flags, leaving the drivers frustrated in an already short race. The green flag was again flown with John re-starting the no. 4 car in 13th place. He then battled his way up to 8th position before the race was again brought to a close early, finishing behind the safety car on the final lap because four cars blocked the track by the hairpin.

Race 3

With a reverse grid based on points gained over the first two races, John started the RSCapp/MTS Legend 22nd on the grid, with a lot of work to do to get to the front but a good start, John carved his way through the pack until the no. 59 spun in front of him but John made it past him safely. Then the heavens opened and down came the rain. John was not disturbed by the down pour and fought his way up to 8th place.

John finished 4th overall on the day, just missing an overall podium position by the skin of his teeth.

"At last I feel like we are going in the right direction. We still have some room for improvement to go quicker and now, with the cars in one piece, we can start to fine-tune the beasts! I am really looking forward to the double header at Lydden Hill"
